Alpena’s Historical Building Fire

Sydnie Lipski, Reporter

The Thunder Bay Theatre was a great place to go and watch a play. The 134-year-old saloon, John a Laus, one of the oldest historical buildings in downtown Alpena located next to the Thunder Bay Theatre, also caught fire. The theatre was saved, but there is fire damage on the roof as well as water throughout the upstairs apartments and the lobby. There is also considerable smoke damage. According to the artistic director, all of the furniture had to be thrown away because of the water and smoke damage. The theatre has raised money through a Go Fund Me page and a Fire Rebuilding Fund on their website. The theater has finished remodeling and has announced its hosting of the Wizard of Oz, October 8th-18th. You can go to the Thunder Bay Theatre website for more details at .
