Suicide Prevention Walk

Suicide Prevention Walk

Cameron Headley, Reporter

As many may know, September is National Suicide Prevention month. In order to celebrate, and spread awareness on this touchy, and all too common topic, Alpena is holding a Suicide Prevention walk. Registration  will begin at Bay View park at 9 a.m. on Saturday. The two-mile walk will start at 10 a.m. The registration fee is $20 per person, and there is no fee for children 12 and younger. All funding will be going towards suicide prevention awareness efforts in Alpena and surrounding communites.

The route will start at Bay View Park, downtown along Walter St., across the 2nd Avenue bridge, and onto the Maritime Heritage Trail. It will continue over the 9th St. bridge, down Chisholm St., and back to Bay View Park. The theme of this year’s walk is “It’s OK to not be OK”. The walk is organised by the Alpena Suicide Prevention program and sponsored Partners in Prevention.

If you cannot or do not wish to walk, but would like to donate, contact Darby Hinkley at dhinkley@thealpenanews.com or call or text 517-494-0004.
