As of Oct. 21, 2020, the Alpena Police Department welcomed Officer David Belknap to its ranks. Belknap, a 16-year veteran of the police forces in Wayne County and Lincoln Park, a suburb of Detroit. He served as a field training officer and a tactical officer on the regional emergency services team in Lincoln Park. Belknap recently moved to Alpena with his wife and two children . His wife, Jamie, was on hand at Belknap’s oath of office ceremony to present him with his APD badge.

One of the biggest reasons Officer Belknap moved up here was for his two daughters. The other reason he stated was because it is nicer up here and more peaceful. In reference to his old job, he explained how people were a lot more rude, ungrateful, and angry. He said up here so far, people have been very friendly and welcoming. Overall, he said he really likes it up here, and that it’s just a lot different from what he’s used to.
