Many people think that art is just a fun hobby people do to pass time. That is not really the case; art is a hobby, but it is also a coping mechanism for many artists. When I am upset, a lot of times I draw to calm down, and I know of several artists who draw as a coping mechanism. Not only does art have an effect on mental health, but mental health has an effect on art. Sometimes when I am given a prompt in art class that I do not like, my feelings towards the prompt shows in the quality of the art. Artists put their emotions in art, which is why quality can vary depending on the artist’s mental state.
