Kurt Golder, class of 1972, was inducted into the Alumni HAll of Fame in 2008 and is known for remarkable coaching.
Golder was recognized as an All-State Athlete on the event ‘Still Rings’ while in Alpena High School and as a University of Michigan Student Athlete. As Big Ten Finalist, he was ranked in the top 10 for the NCAA. Golder received his Bachelor degree from Michigan University and he received his Master’s degree from Michigan State University. His coaching career began at Ann Arbor Huron High School and even led their team to a state title in 1979. His collections of places he coached includes Michigan State University, Genesee Valley, and the University of Iowa before becoming head gymnastics coach at the University of Michigan. His teams have been Big Ten Team Champions (1999-2000), NCAA National Team Champions (1999), NCAA Super Six (1999 and 2006-07). His coaching careers continues when he was assistant coach for the 2001 World Gymnastics team who won a silver medal. Golder was also World University Games Head Coach in 1995, 1997, 2003 and 2007. His career has taken him to Israel, France, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Belgium, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Puerto Rico, South Korea, and Japan.
